Kick-off at ILL, Grenoble (France)
The kick-off meeting of both JRAs related to polarised neutrons was held at ILL (P1) the 18th and 19th of March 2004. It gathered participants in the Polarised Neutron Techniques (JRA5-PNT) activity co-ordinated by A. Ioffe and in the 3He Neutron Spin Filter (JRA4-NSF) activity co-ordinated by E. Lelièvre-Berna (almost 50 people).
The first day of the meeting was devoted to presentations: each partner has outlined his plans concerning the JRAs and described the state of the art (e.g. the pre-existing know-how that is going to be shared for carrying out the projects). These presentations took place at an open session common to both JRAs. In the evening, the JRA participants have clinked their tall Champagne glasses and enjoyed a good meal. The next day, parallel PNT and NSF JRA Committee meetings was held with the aim of organising task sharing and discussing administrative questions. A quick tour of the 3He laboratory and the D3 and IN22 polarised neutron instruments of the ILL took place after lunch.
All partners (except PNPI - broken leg!) were represented. Copies of the presentations are available from the Open Session page. The minutes of the NSF-JRAC meeting are available here.
